Otaka is an 11-year-old Japanese-American girl with autism who's friends with Mega Man. She appears in the fan anime Mega Man: Bass's Revenge and the fangame Mega Man World.

Description

Otaka usually wears a yellow sweater and denim jeans, though on occasion she wears a blue sweater and black pants or a green sweater and beige pants. She also sports black hi-tops, lilac socks, and dark red or light pink glasses. She has short brown hair swept behind her back.

Personality

Otaka is unstable. She's hyperactive and practically unable to sit still and calls herself "Captain Otaka." She loves anime and video games (especially Touhou and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.) Unusual for a girl her age, she still watches shows like Barney, Tensushiro, Fun Song Factory, and Doraemon, and does children's activities like playing pretend and playing clapping games. She also has a collection of vinyl records, mainly children's records, although she does have a Saturday Night Live cast album she listens to sporadically. Her fluency in Japanese has led her to invent words in the language that mean nothing in English, like "youwaban." Even though she has the mentality of a toddler, she still curses, but it's rare to hear her do so. She also knows how to fight, use a gun, is an expert at computers, watches YouTube Poops, and sometimes writes about gory scenarios, in addition to her usual fluffy, saccharine writings. She's also a bit of a sadist, as she enjoys seeing bad things happen to people.

History

Otaka was born in Okinawa, Japan as Danielle Otaka. Her parents, Kirsten Blackwood and Toru Otaka, were involved in the field of robotics. Otaka and her family migrated to Tenma City in southern California when she was 2, so Toru could set up a robot parts shop there. Over the years, Otaka met many people. She was 11 when she met the recent hero Mega Man, and she resolved to help the Blue Bomber out during his travels as she thought he looked cute.

Story

Mega Man: Bass's Revenge

Otaka is one of the people who travel with Mega Man in his journey to rescue Roll and stop Bass. Along the way, Mega Man warms up to Otaka and gets past her weird behavior. She helps hack into the fortress Bass sets up. By the end of the anime, it looks like she and Mega Man can be in a relationship.

Mega Man World

Otaka is the second playable character, though a second player can control her in tag team mode or multiplayer mode. She wants to help out Mega Man in his adventure, and she gets to. Otaka's stages are in a gameplay style similar to Strider or Ninja Gaiden, as Otaka has no attacks like Mega Man and can't copy powers, instead trading the Arm Cannon for her "Gekusami Kick" and Charge Shot for her "Watatsuki Throw."

Trivia

  • Otaka is strikingly similar to Yuuta and Akane Kobayashi.
    • All three of them have Japanese names and all three are human. Furthermore, Yuuta and Akane appear in Mega Man: Bass's Revenge and are part of Mega Man's group there.
  • Otaka is the second human female character in the series, after Kalinka Cossack, and the third female character.
  • Otaka means "grand."
  • Otaka has shown some hints of a relationship with Mega Man, most notably during the events of Mega Man: Bass's Revenge.
  • Otaka is the first character in the series to have a mental disorder; in this case, autism.
